SMD Resistors

General usage areas and selection criteria of standard and precision-tolerance surface-mount (SMD) resistors in circuit design.

SMD resistors are small resistor components soldered directly onto the surface of a board. They serve many circuit functions such as current limiting, voltage division, pull-up and pull-down, and signal level matching. Thanks to their compact structure and suitability for automated placement, they are widely used in many modern boards.

Resistance value, tolerance, power rating, package size and temperature coefficient are the key parameters in selection. While standard tolerance may be sufficient for the circuit's requirements, tighter-tolerance types are considered for precision applications such as feedback and reference lines.
